Indian e-Visa Application Guide

1. Understanding the Indian e-Visa

The Indian e-Visa is available for tourism, business, medical, and conference purposes. Validity options include:

  • Tourist e-Visa: Valid for 30 days, 1 year, or 5 years

  • Business e-Visa: Valid for 1 year

  • Medical e-Visa: Valid for 60 days

  • Conference e-Visa: Valid for 30 days

2. Countries Eligible for Indian e-Visa

Citizens of over 150 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, and many others, can apply for e-Visa. However, eligibility may be subject to change. To check if your country is eligible, please refer to the list on the official e-Visa website under “Countries / Nationalities who are eligible to avail eVisa”.

If your country is not listed, please check with your nearest Indian consulate for alternative visa options.

3. When to Apply?

  • 30-Day Tourist e-Visa: You can apply 4 to 30 days before arrival.

  • 1-Year & 5-Year Tourist e-Visas: You can apply 4 to 120 days before arrival.

4. e-Visa Fees

  • The fees depend on your nationality, type of e-Visa, and its validity. Here is a general guide:

  • 30-Day Tourist e-Visa: $10-$25

  • 1-Year Tourist e-Visa: $40

  • 5-Year Tourist e-Visa: $80

  • Business / Medical / Conference e-Visa: $80

5. Before You Begin: Requirements Checklist

To apply for an Indian e-Visa, you will need the following:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in India, with at least two blank pages

  • Recent passport-sized photograph (in digital format) – jpeg, 10KB to 1MB

  • Scanned copy of your passport’s information page – pdf, 10KB – 300KB

  • Valid email address

  • Credit/debit card or other payment method for e-Visa fee

6. How to Apply for an Indian e-Visa

Follow these steps to apply for your e-Visa:

  1. Visit the Official e-Visa Website: Go to https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/ to begin the application.

  2. Select Your e-Visa Type: Choose the type of e-Visa that matches your travel purpose. For leisure trips, you would typically apply in the Tourist e-Visa category.

  3. Fill Out the Application Form:

    • Personal Information: Enter your name, date of birth, nationality, and passport details. Make sure all details match exactly as they appear on your passport.

    • Travel Information: Enter the details of your travel, including expected arrival and departure dates, port of arrival, and any previous visits to India.

    • Address / Reference in India: Use the address of your first hotel or accommodation. If you’re traveling with WizTrek, you can also fill in the following operator details wherever necessary:

    • Upload Documents: Attach your scanned passport page and passport-sized photograph as per the specified guidelines.

  4. Pay the e-Visa Fee: After completing the form, you will be prompted to pay the visa fee. Fees vary depending on your nationality and visa type. Payment can be made via credit/debit card or other available methods. You will receive an Application ID after submission. Save this ID for future reference. You should receive an email confirming your application and, later, a status update.

  5. e-Visa Approval: Processing typically takes 3-5 business days. Once approved, you will receive the e-Visa via email. Print a copy to carry with you on your trip to India.

7. Important Notes

  • Apply at least 4-7 days before arrival to ensure enough time for processing.

  • The e-Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible. Ensure you choose the correct visa

  • type when applying.

  • Double-check all details before submission, as errors could lead to delays or rejection.

  • Enter India through one of the designated airports or seaports that accept e-Visas.

8. Tips for a Successful Application

  • Your passport photo must be clear, with a white background, and taken in the last six months. Follow the guidelines provided on the e-Visa website for photo specifications.

  • Check your spam folder for approval email in case it doesn’t appear in your inbox.

  • If you encounter any issues, contact the Indian e-Visa support via their official website.
